The Local Archival Collection of Ikaria belongs to the General Archives of State (GSA)-Archives of Samos and to the Ministry of Education. It is located in Agios Kirykos and temporarily, it is housed since 2007 inside the City Hall. Later, it is planned to be transferred to the newer halls of the Old Gymnasium, which would not be related to the Archaeological Museum. The Archival Collection was created under the initiative of the teachers of the county and the municipality of Ikaria has the maintenance, the supervision and promotion of that archive.
The main aim of the collection is the print and electronic collection, registration, classification and promotion of public and private documents, old maps etc., that have survived through the centuries and depict the history and tradition of the island. The archival material, including all kinds of rare quotes from magazines, newspapers and audio-visual material, preserve valuable evidence of Ikarian life and is an important source for the study and research of each scientist, citizen, learner, seeking testimonies from the past of the island.
Interested scholars have the opportunity to visit the online General State Archives and the Archives particular of Samos at: http://gak.sam.sch.gr. There, one can find in cataloged form, all the files in the collection and some files in digital format.
Information for visitors
- Accessibility for people with reduced mobility is not possible to the museum.
- Access to toilets of the museum is not possible for the public.
- The Museum does not have parking for private vehicles.
- There is not a shop inside the museum.
- Αnimals' entrance is forbidden within the museum.
- The Museum conducts year-round educational programs and school visits can be arranged.

Access
The museum is located in Agios Kirykos, near the building of the Municipality of Ikaria. Access is only by private car, taxi or on foot.
